Counseling and Psychotherapy for Internationals

Knowing from first-hand what life abroad feels like, I am here to offer my services to the international community. Being an expat myself, I have experienced most of the ups and downs that living in a foreign country brings along.

All the things that can be exciting, can also be tricky at the same time. Finding a home, a job, friends and finding a balance between these things!

I believe in easy access to psychological support and I know that I will do my best to assist you.

What are you dealing with

Anxiety
Panic attacks
Perfectionism
Procrastination
Depression
Mood fluctuations
Relationship and intimacy issues
Interpersonal difficulties
Loneliness
Low self-esteem
Anger issues
Burn-out and work-related stress
Grief and loss
Separation and divorce
Relocation and cultural adjustment

Do you identify with any of the issues of above? Is your problem not mentioned on the list? Let me know what your issue is and we can find a way to work through this together.

How can I help

I have real interest to hear your story! My goal will be to create a safe and warm environment for you, so that we can work towards the understanding of your issues together. I will help you discover your blind spots, cultivate a healthy relationship with yourself and your loved ones and explore how your personal history affects your life in the present.

Also, I know that seeking support as an international can be tricky and the waiting lists can be long. Here in Therapy Sofa, I believe in easy access in mental health services. That means, firstly, that there is not an issue too small to ask for support and, secondly, that there is no waiting list (depending on my availability, 1-2 weeks).

Within all our concerns, finding a mental health professional shouldn’t be one of them.

Individual Counseling and Psychotherapy

Couples Therapy

Our romantic relationships involve great complexity. In all their beauty, difficulties, misunderstandings and conflicts often emerge.

None of us has been born with a guidebook for relationships, most of us have experienced some kind of relationship trauma, and all of us are behaving in our romantic relationships with the best way we know so far.

What are you dealing with
Are you fighting over the same things again and again and do you often find yourselves lost in negative spirals? Do you consider if it is worth staying in that relationship any longer? Is the sexuality fading out? Do you long for the initial sparkle that now seems lost? You both want to make this work out but don’t know how?

Lack of communication, emotional isolation, attachement issues, intimacy issues, anger issues, involvement of the greater family into the couple’s decisions, addiction, domestic violence, divorce/break-up are some of the many examples that people have asked support for.

How can I help
In Therapy Sofa, I work with compassion towards the understanding of your difficulties. The major goal is not to maintain the relationship at all costs, but to cultivate healthy and honest communication between the couple, work through dysfunctional patterns, help them find inner balance independently, understand the part each one is playing and explore the unique history that each partner carries and the way it affects the relationship.

Students Counseling

Having been a student myself and having supported students, I can understand the difficulties that come alongside the fun and beauty of student life. “You are a student, that’s the best phase in your life!”, people often say. But life does not wait for when it is convenient to get difficult and tough.

There are also changes at this stage that you have to cope with, a new house, a new city, new friends. Now you take on more responsibilities and often you do not know where to start from!

Emerging adulthood is a transitional period in life and it is very helpful to seek the support you may need.

What are you dealing with
Here you can see some examples of issues that students have seeked support for in the past:

Anxiety and stress
Panic attacks
Exam stress
Time management issues
Procrastination
Perfectionism
Mood fluctuations
Depression
Loneliness
Feeling empty
Loss of meaning
Depression
Difficulties in relationships
Sexuality
Traumatic event
Boundary issues

Do you identify with any of the issues of above? Is your problem not mentioned on the list? Let me know what your issue is and we can find a way to work through this together.

How can I help

I am curious to understand you. Very often we hear people say “maybe it’s not a big deal, I am probably overthinking it/I am exaggerating”. But no issue is small enough to not seek for support.

I will try to create a safe and warm environment for you, so that we can work together towards understanding your issues. I will help you discover your blind spots, cultivate a healthy relationship with yourself and your loved ones and explore how your personal history affects your life in the present.

Also, I know that seeking support as an international student can be tricky and the waiting lists can be long. Here in Therapy Sofa, I believe in easy access in mental health services. That means, firstly, that I take into account potential financial difficulties and I want to provide affordable mental health care to students, and, secondly, that there is no waiting list (depending on my availability, it will be 1-2 weeks).

Within all your concerns, finding a mental health professional should not be one of them.

Online Psychotherapy

I would like to make your path to psychotherapy easier. Online sessions can be just as effective as in-person sessions.

What are you dealing with
People that seek therapy often have common concerns and struggles. For certain cases, online therapy can be even more beneficial and helpful. Here are some reasons for which people have asked to attend online therapy sessions in the past:

Anxiety disorders
Social phobia
Limited free time
Taking care of newborn or children
Traveling frequently
Difficulties in transportation
Health issues

Do you identify with any of the above mentioned examples? Is your case not mentioned on the list? Let me know what your issue is and we can find a way to work through this together.

How can I help
Even if you are not dealing with any of the aforementioned issues, you can still choose online therapy sessions. The most important thing is to find a therapist that suits you. After all, the therapeutic alliance, as we call it, is a key factor for a successful psychotherapeutic process.

If you have questions regarding our online connection, you can get in touch with me to schedule a first appointment and we can discuss about the options beforehand. Usually, I use the platforms of Zoom and Skype.
