A few words about me

Anna Maria Sakellariou - Psychologist, MSc

Anna – Maria Sakellariou

Psychologist, MSc
Systemic Psychotherapy

I know that I will do my best to support you on your decision to help yourself.

What are my qualifications?

I have studied Psychology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and completed my postgraduate studies in Neuropsychology at the University of Maastricht, where I specialized in the relationship between the human brain and behavior, gaining valuable knowledge about the neurophysiological mechanisms of addictions, neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders.

What about my work experience?

I followed my clinical internship at the Research University Institute of Mental Health – Kostas Stefanis (EPIPSY), where my collaboration with the National Psychosocial Support Helpline 10306 started, which continues to this day. We provide Psychological First Aid to callers of any age, no matter what the mental health issues they are dealing with are. I thus have the opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary team with professionals of different approaches and deal with a wide variety of mental health issues (anxiety, panic attacks, depression, grief, loss, family or couple problems, etc.). I am also participating in @ease Maastricht, a mental health institution committed to providing accessible psychological support for young people.

What is my training?

I find people fascinating and I value standing by their side. So I chose to become a psychotherapist. My psychotherapeutic approach is Systemic Psychotherapy based on my 4-year training at the Human Relations Research Laboratory. I am also trained in Schema Therapy in the Netherlands (ISST Approved Schema Therapy Training – Schematherapie Opleidingen), as my love for the field of psychology constantly pushes me on new paths of development.

How do I work?

I believe in progress, courage, evolution. I also believe in the vulnerability, fear, pain and needs that we all have. The starting point during the sessions will be the struggles -but also the skills- you have in the present, but my goal will not be to fix you. What I find important is for both of us to face your struggles with curiosity, identify where the issue lies and understand how it has been created. Then, we can start building alternative routes together and I will help you start making decisions that are more aligned with your true self.

In my private practice, I work with individuals, couples and families, who live in Greece or in the Netherlands, but also everywhere abroad, designing personalized interventions and emphasizing on the unique story and needs of each person. I know that I will do my best to support you on your decision to help yourself.
